Although this was done in April, busy ness had not yet left us out of the equation.
After almost a month plus of waiting, we finally have with us the final product from Aiman and Yus of the Straits Quay shoots by them :)
go ahead and oogle them out at my very first styling gig for F&F by Tesco.
http://marilahbersorak.blogspot.com/2012/05/spring-summer-i.html
tell me that you oogled and that you feel like buying ‘em for yourselves :D
Go check out his blog and his awesome self portraits too, he puts a whole ‘nother level of camwhoring to his shoots! ;) suck on that Myspace camhoggers! :D
xxxx
Hey Hey Hey,
I must say, I’ve been patting myself in the back for doing this so religiously. for now it seems. haha. I hope that my previous post didnt sound too much like someone who is just blasting whatever that comes out of her mind onto digital paper. That preious post had more pics, actually, but I only put a few cz simply, time is not on my side.
Moving on, after the day ended, we all headed back to our hotel for a good night’s rest. The models required their much needed beauty sleep for the next day shoot at Straits Quay! :)
I laid out alll the babies that i have from many years of collecting accessories from my trips and trippy shopping trip-blowouts around the world (and KL). and I must say, these are only a partial 25% of it :)

So after selecting the proper accessories to be paired up with the models outfits, we packed them all up and headed off to Straits Quay fr the F&F shoot. We originally had no clue to where the exact spots around Straits Quay will be used for the shoot, until my boss called and say that we managed to obtain one of the yachts to be used for the shoot! How cool is that? :)
Once there, it was a scorching 34 degree, sunny weather. perfect weather, though not necessarily for the shoot. we had to wait a little while for the sun to be a little meeker with us, but it wont budge. So we had to carry all of our things out onto that ghastly, burning pavement. It was so hot, we were already bathed in our sweat. Just ask Justin (hah!)
All of the items of clthing we use are from F&F. Siti from F&F later sent us items from the Tanjung Pinang Tesco F&F as additional outfits to be styled for the models. Bit of a last minute hassle, but why argue with a stylist anyway (:p)
We met with yesterday’s photographers to continue on with their vision of the shoot, and as a result, we had tonnes of fun in the sun (put aside the sticky factor). You can catch the behind-the-scenes action through Aiman and Yusri’s photography in Aiman’s blog at blogspot called maribersorak. for all you too lazy to google, here’s the link for you: http://marilahbersorak.blogspot.com/2012/04/mercedes-benz-stylo-model-search-finals.html
The pics!

Shian talking her stride: Top and pants in F&F

Adorable Mira B: headband’s mine. :p scarf provided by Aiman.

Cass with an F&F skirt for a tube top. Shorts by F&F.

Syahirah showing off her pins in F&F! She decided to keep them for herself after the shoot haha.

This is the only nice pic of Justin climbing out of the metal barriers. Konon nak achieve the free-runners feel, but cant blame the poor lad. It WAS FRIGGIN HOT!
The other pictures however..are as hot as the weather that day haha.

..he’s taken ladies.
Now I dont practice favoristism in whatever I do. But I really like this guy’s look (which has caused me some light bullying from the STYLO staff thinking that I’m crushing over him, meh). His name is Zac and he’s part Indian/Bidayuh/Malay from Kuching. and I think Malaysia should start digging more into this exotic, rough-n-tough model look. Embrace local models! :)

and I dont recall anything about the hecticity in this pic..

more..
GROUPSHOT BY THE PIER!

Shian’s holding my scarf. LOL

This pic would have been perfect! (and just realized that Shian’s the only one without shades. haih)

This pic was a result of them all looking at Malay couple fucking each other on the face. Yes, Malay. want proof?

we purposely ask Cass to pose right smack where they were behind us. Where’s that RM50 promised to pose it in The Star newspaper weh?

…and another gooo..

and of course, the obligatory group jumping shot. :) and that is a wrap!
I am proud to have this offer to style and supervise the shoot with Zen with the rest of the STYLO/RAPR staff. Soon things will kickstart pretty big and quick for me. Am scared but very keen to go for whatevr being thrown at me (pretty literal at that too) :) Thanks mucho millions to Aiman and Yus as well (tk smpat nk tgkp gmbar dgn you, Yus) xxx
Its that time again, where I entertain you with my bi-annual fashion updates.
Just had a lazy Saturday and figured that I shouldnt spend this day just lazing about sleeping. After receiving an email saying that I have a new follower on Tumblr (depsite after almost a month of not updating the blog) have tugged my heartstrings to start a new post :) and I have materials to utilize my new post. :)
Title as shown above. it was the Mercedes-Benz show, an extension of STYLO FGP event which held in Penang. We all woke up early and headed off to the Pearl Island with the MERC models; Syahirah, Justin, Mira, Cass and Zac w/ a Ford Model to help us with the fashion choreography. Yours truly was given the first assignment to style the models for the fashion show at Suffolk House and a shoot at Straits Quay, Tanjung Bungah. I was nervous but moreso excited to be given such task to style the models. The pictures will be on the newspapers and will be kept in F&F archive :)
Upon arrival, we arrived at the exquisite Suffolk House, which was once a residential abode of Sir Francis Light, the guy who founded Penang. The house was originally delapidated and abandoned, good thing there are people out there who tok this matter into serious consideration and refurbish the house to become a fine-dining restaurant. The house looks stunning :)

Afetr immersing myself with the splendor of the house, I proceeded to get ready with the models. After almost an hour of quick rehearsal in the hot sun (stickiest day ever). we went to one of the private rooms to have their makeup and clothes styling done.
It was difficult working with a limited range of clothes style, but nevertheless, with the help of my bosses and guidance from colleagues, the end result was purttyy! These are all F&F! Can u believe it??

*tears*
The models then proceeded to the show area, while awaiting VP of Marketing of Mercedes Benz Malaysia, Mr. Kai Schlickum to give his speech. We assembled them out, and I was nervous if Dato’ Nancy, my boss aka CEO of STYLO would like my styling at all. *cringe* she has not seen them out yet. Not to mention the the President of Mercedes Benz Malaysia also was in attendance! *double cringe*
And soo the models sneaked out.. not wanting the spectators/guests to see them in their F&F garbs. I bet they dont even know they were in F&F.

Then after Mr. Kai finished his speech, the models did what they know best to Rolling Stones’ Painted Black, as we’ve all decided to stick to the theme of Hamptons-esque noir look. and they sure hell did it!

Shian, the winner of Mercedes-STYLO Model Search 2012 ( who will also be heading to Mexico for Fashion Week) strutting her thang. and if u believe it, that was ot a dress. It was a bra top with a frilly F&F skirt combines together :p fooled ya?

One of the finalists, Melinda, in an F&F dress. accessories: yours truly :)
In a final assembly for the photo op, it was a hit. the models then proceed to go around the three cars on display. New from Mercedes,on the new CLS, SLK and AMG lineup.

a combo of the models and luxury cars. Sexy. Now go buy one.
All in all, it was a hit, the prez of Merc was very pleased (over the moon, apparently) by how good the models look. :)
While the top 3 headed off for interviews. we took the other models for a mini photoshoot. Must capitalize on the beautiful setting for the shoot. :) Taken by awesome photographers, Aiman and Yusri, whoa re both based in Penang.

Shian with charming Mr. Kai.

More pics of the shoot :)

Credits to Aiman and Yusri!

Hey guys,
you have no idea how many times I’ve been to this site, typed, left the page. came back again to re-type and then left it there again (and yes including retyping this entire sentence right there -_-) well i’ve been so damn busy and occupied with my time that squeezing some minutes into typing this turns into an (almost) impossible effort. Well here it is, my little report on one of my first assignments to set up an event: the Mercedes-Benz STYLO Model Search 2012.
Upon hitting the road starting from 10am, I’ve been instructed to move onwards to this newly built Tesco mall located at Old Klang Road. There, armed with loads of red duct tapes, black cloth and the 30kilogram weight drag-a-round Model Search backdrop, I was like a clueless, confused lamb trying to sort out the next move. However, after a few instructions from a very very, very busy boss, I managed to try to solve all of the compounding issue of where’re the manpower at?? Well looky-looky turns out myself and a lovely RAPR colleague would have to sort that part by ourselves :o
Alas, 45kilos (okaylahh fine, 48kilo) of tiny marsupial strength can afford to deal with this shiz no prob.

TA-DAHHH! yes, all done by hand by these tiny, delicate hands. ( with additional 2 hands, yes Jaslyn :p)
duct-taping the runway carpet onto it was a challenge, wind not a good friend. BOO!
so anyway, after hours of taping, re-taping, re-adding the re-taping of the duct tapes, finally we just gave up and proceeded to taping the cloth around the judges table. one thing I learned about this whole entire shazam, is that everything must be put into minute, miniscule detail to attention; which is totally frustrating for a girl with not much help and not much tapes to help cover the uglies :( well anyway, crisis aside, I had the awesome chance of oogling the models, and test my runway walking skills as well. look at the bevy of these beauties and handsomies (haha)

I took a seat back after set-up since I’ve got nothing much to do. Watched these kids attempt to walk on their best runway modelling walk coached by the fantabulous Jimmy Wong.

Model hopeful Justin Koit being guided by the extraordinaire.
I must say the varieties of this year’s model search hopefuls are very vibrant.
here’s Zakaria (Zack) from Kuching strutting his Tyrese Gibson-esque strut.

Its nice to see that we are slowly embracing the exotic, Polynesian/Malay look back into our industry. (cuci mata sikit)
SO anyway, closer to the start of the event, I head back to my car and changed my clothes (yes, you heard that right, and yes i’ve checked that there are no security cameras around either.) and appear out in a tucked-in egyptian-inspired dress in black skinny pants. I cant be effed to put on a dress after doing all that running (tak sempat shave my kaki also booo!).
Then it begins, the heat of the suspense of the show is starting!
of course, not without a few camwhoring sessions in tow! :p

myself with the lovely RAPR girls!
and myself against the backdrop. obligatory shot! :D

apologies for the neck whiplash! I’ve tried to rotate using the photobucket shite of a program but failed me miserably. -_-
so, the program started at about 8pm, and the behind I captures some of the behind-the-scenes awesomeness and not to mention yummyness!

Last year’s winner Atikah getting her face on.

another whiplash, but i know this is so worth it for you ladies ;) Justin Koit, from Kuching ( we have loads of good-looking ppl from Kuching why??)

hottie Sharlene Karim (also from Kuching and siblings with Zack) back off guys, she’s married! ;)

sigh, this is why I love my job. :)
as the event starts, the lovely Karen Lugun was given the first task of becoming a co-emcee after my very own boss and emcee of the night, Doreen.

so easy said, the night started with the rounds made by these potential models all dress clad in FnF clothes.

And as they made their final best struts, here comes the results! and as seen above, they all made it as the top 12 finalists! ( well was 13 but later he had to drop out due to academic requirements, so sad cz he has such a great look and built!!)
it was nice to my lovely Shien to make it on the top 12! so much potential in this leggy lass from Penang ( my homegirl!)

(yes, be kind with the short comments please, the right terminology would be “small’, “petite”)
there you have it, finally a post after months of procrastination. good to know I managed to finish this one! :) Well this isnt the end of it. I’ll somehow TRY to upload the other pics and stories from my STYLO event escapades and insanity!
Next post i’ll hopefully upload a post on the winners/awards nights and the opening night. Sigh, I think I should have my own photographer for this. Any takers? :p
The droopy-faced singer is known for his high-pitched, raspy vocals and songs that all of us can air guitar to in our bedrooms. I have only noticed recently of his style once he started appearing as aone of the judges for American Idol. I think a few weeks back, Kanye made this bold statement (nothing from his mouth, just a fashion statement) of putting on a woman’s top and performed in it. Many assumed that Kanye has started of this trend (hey boys, back up off our wardrobe), but really if you noticed, Steven Tyler has donned these woman-esque top since god knows how long. In fact, the singer himself said that he loves to put on woman’s top, and from the looks of things; his shirts indeed carries of a string feminine vibe to it. The more I scrutinize what he puts on, the more I realize, hey this guy’s taste is quite awesome for someone with the grandpa title :D :D oh,oh he’s also a chunky necklace addict OMG.

see? pretty awesome right?
look at how me mix and match the brocade pattern with animal prints. and that scorpion necklace is to die!

I’m such a lazy bum when it comes to writing, yes I know. I’ve been enjoying too much, caring nothing but myself. I have been having the most fantastic 8 months of doing nothing much but partying and socializing with good company and awesome events. I got to apologize to you guys who reads my blog but no longer do due to my excessive procrastination. I’m not that good in writing, but when a girl just gotta blurt something out, she cant hold it back much longer. I’m pretty sensitive to things around me, fashion is among the most personal things that i find to have build some kind of emotional attachment to it. I have observed and mocked some of things I just cringe in shame of what Malaysians have adopted as part of their everyday style mantra, it is that time where someone must step onto a platform and announce to the world what shame have they been carrying around in the form of:
1) Leggings as pants

I think you may have heard this so many times it bugs you, but hey-ho i think we’ve got ourselves a fashion convict. I dont know who fed you the idea that wearing leggings makes every look complete, bt it just looks ridiculous clinging on to your saggy butt like that. The idea of putting them on under a dress or an everflowing top is fine by me, bt some of you have ridiculously flaunt them on shamelessly with a loose cut top/short tank. I’m sure some of the boys would appreciate the view but sersly, just save it for your bf’s plain view will ya?
2) Fake eyelashes
I have worn fakeys for fun. I’ll never put them on for a day at the mall, or even on a date. I think fakeys shld only be reserved for a fun occasion, or a night out with friends but i completely disagree when it comes to wearing them in casual outings with friends or on dates.I dont know why would anyone, and i do mean, ANYONE would want to have the title ‘Ratu Bulu Mata Palsu’ Malaysia on their shoulders (or eyelids for that matter) that’s such a heavy title to carry, lol. ;p
3) Big plastic chunky jewelry

I’m an afficionado of all chunky jewelry. but there is a fine line between the aesthetics of chunky jewelry and just plain plastic chunk. I’m talking about one of things being worn by many Malaysian celebs in Malay dramas. You see, unlike Sex and The City, where the major part of the production goes into wardrobe, most of us barely even cover budget on buying a pair of fakeys (lol). But what we come up with is just disasterous; the stylists/makeup artistes for these dramas would end up purchasing these ghastly, gigantic plastic thingies that was time blasted from the 80s. I dont understand why they couldnt find anything else more decent than the ones they’ve chosen as part of the wardrobe, i know tonnes of shops in Sg Wang that offers 3 for RM10 earrings that looks golden or cheap outfits no more than RM30 that is both decent and fashionable to wear as well. Its ridiculous to think that these people think that there are no substitute for style if they haven’t got the money. Geez
4) Smoky eyes
I like smoky eyes. Its the look, the changing effect it brings to your look and all that glamour puss feel it gives you when u have it on. Its a sexy look, but to have it on, well, every excuse to go out just kills the exclusivity of the look. I think Malaysians are missing the point that the smoky eye look can be achieved in other tones as well, not just black. I noticed that Malays just love to have this look on their wedding day. Yes, everyone wants to look like a princess on a wedding day, but do you recall looking at Snow White or Princess Aurora in smokey eyed makeup on their wedding day? Or did you see Cinderella with smoky eyeshadow look when she got to the ball? NOPE. Once in a while, is okay. But putting them on for every single excuse of attending a function you can make is just going overboard. If you are so into the whole look, try out with different colors, or better yet, try to adopt the day look more. People want to see the real you anyway.
5) Mitchy matchy jewelry

Ah-ha, I knew that you have seen an imagery of which known politician guilty for that crime. First rule of putting on chunky, diamond-encrusted jewelry is: choose just one item that is enough to complete your overall look. But from what I’ve seen, I saw that some people took the concept of wearing a jewelry collection into heart. Like say, why would people put on the a same design pair of earrings with the same-designed necklace altogether. Please do not do this. Unless i you’re modelling for jewelry, its okay if u get to run off with this, but knowing that you appear on tv everyday, just realize you are being made fun of for your sense of style. p/s: sorry Rafidah Aziz, you’re an easy target for this.
Believe me, I have been struggling for so long to make up my mind about which clothes should go/stay. And today marks the very day which I have successfully assemble these lovelies treasure I have and seen it be worn and appreciated by others. and just to note that these are pre-loved items. :)

Interested? Let me know on my facebook @ Haida Yusof or my email: haidalliani@hotmail.com. :)
I have received word that my dad plans to go to Los Angeles again. Now this trippy heart leaped so high it can go past Empire State Building 4 times. and yes I do know that Empire State Building is in New York, but bleh.
so on my next trip I’ve already received a grocery list of demands for my dear darlings. I’ll try to acquiese to all your demands as i am bringing an extra check-in bag just for you lovelies :D heheh.
Remember when I told you in my previous post about tribal skirts making it big in Malaysia? well it has already reached our shores. In forever 21 mostly. ( and HA! I told you so)

* as shown in whowhatweardaily.com*
so THAt is going to be in my shopping list. I saw a loadsome of these beauties back in the States. gotta rush before the fever hits Malaysia :)
aside from this, I may also include this beautiful list of stuff that I may need to obtain there:
1) Dark Blue Jeans
so, okay my jeans count has approached well above 20, but i have yet to get one very versatile-colored jeans. I feel that skinny dark blue jeans paired with a crisp white shirt is a timeless look. and knowing me, I am a huuuge fan of jeanss.

2) Heels and more heels
What is up with women and shoes?? well if you are a guy and happen to be asking this, then we will lay off our question of “what’s up with guys and fast cars?” argument for this sake. ya dig?
3) Herve Leger-inspired dress
I saw one dress in this store in the States where they actually sell dresses that looks like the famous Bandage dress. The faves of Lindsay Lohan, Vicky Beckham and Amanda Bynes, this asphyxiation-inducing dress is perfect for my tiny, petite frame. and not to mention that the material feels exactly like scond skin to me!
4) Lingerie
Lingerie in Malaysia is ridiculously priced, going to Lasenza is always a dissapointing trip since either way, i cant fit to their big booby demands. not that I have small boobs or anything-SHUSH!
I saw a couple of well-known designer lingeries that was up for sale from as low as $4. andddd not to mention those stunning VS undies they have up on sale as well! jizz!
5) Southwestern-inspired tops
I find tribal/Indian-inspired motives from the West to be lovely. especially from the Navajo tribe. and lucky enough, there’re plenty of this style that can be seen in the States. I’m looking for items that have a little bit of the Indians meet Cowboys vibe sans the frills but more on the motives. :)
After another segment of hiatus, i’m finally here to present to you my findings from my bargain shopping extravaganza in Los Angeles.I’m sorry it took you this long, and there’s a good reason for it; i was still trying to get over my shopping hangover that day. and yeah it was pretty intense. :D
so let us skip on the details of my glorious 17 hour flight from KL to Los Angeles. Clearly on my first trip on to the States, I have no idea on what is ahead of me. I did a little research, but hey honestly, my only aim was just to go sight seeing. though that must have escaped me soon after.
Upon descending to LAX, my dad and I took the shuttle bus with the crew to Westin Airport Hotel.

the hotel room was nice, though surprisingly was not jet lagged. Dad’s friend invited us for a trip to Vegas. But we declined it sbb TAKKAN NAK PG DGN MY DAD KOTT? *kaching*
first stop of the trip: Ralph’s
HAHA you say, dad was only aiming to obtain some replenishments since my dad is very fussy with food.
going into the store, i spotted this nail color collection:

sumpah okay this is the only picture i can tgkap of the glorious items in store, sbb i was already having headaches from looking at Covergirl cosmetics and Max Factor makeup bar. This is suffice to satisfy my cosmetics addiction. Bright colors tak smpai Malaysia lg, I’m dissapointed padahal we are blessed with all year round clear weather.
so anyway, the next day,dad decides to bring me to this brands-for-less store called Marshall’s.

Little did I know of the brands they were selling in the store was well..all high-end designer brands. even the ones where u cant exclusively get in Malaysia, like Cynthia Rowley, Michael Kors, Baby Phat and many more.

*NGEE*
While dad being the most awesome accomplice to my fahion bargain adventure brought me to the shoe clearance aisle. and boy, have i just died.

shoes by Betsey Johnson, Calvin Klein, Guess, Ralph Lauren, Chinese Laundry and many more. I could just die and die again. While I was flipped to a frenzy I saw these beauties that are just TDF!

nude pumps by Glaze for $19.99

Ralph Lauren shoe for $20

Guess pumps for $15
and the piece de resistance(s),

this stunning beauty was a size 9 :( its so darn cheap and only cost $25. sigh.

Jessica Simpson pumps. kinda stripper-ish for me.
As i was writhing in purchase pain due to the choices available, dad brought me to the Del Amo Fashion Centre. It looks like a plain mall but really they are jam-packed with stores that Malaysians would assume to be ‘gempak’. and this is a residential mall.

There are alot of major stores in here such as Forever21, H&M, Macy’s. well at least to a Malaysian’s point of view lah. :D
Dad brought me to the Burlington Coat Factory. I saw the commercial on TV about branded items for less, and yes i did went ga-ga over the shoes there.

I bought myself a Baby Phat pink suede pumps for $25. and later to Payless Shoe source where i got another shoe by famed Project Runway winner Christian Siriano.

The shoe was a little expensive since it wasn’t on clearance. but retailing at about $45 bucks, that’s worth more than any Nose/Nine West shoe since it was designed (beautifully) by a well-known designer.

I bought the sandal version of this one. so darn pretty! but i’m aiming to get this one above soon for raya on my next trip :D
also went to H&M and their beach wear was stunning. bikinis ranging from $4 a piece. saw this brilliant two-piece set for $15.. and this stunning GEM!

this was on sale for $70. a glorious el-matador inspired jacket from $150. though didnt actually purchase sbb dad gave me a cold look. ummm okay dad, noted.
i cant wait to be back to L.A for my next souvenir trip. :) i’ll make sure i’ll bring back some of the lovely stuff there for you guys. Part 2 coming up! :)
swallow this.
Malaysia will not be a fashion capital anytime soon. In a very prominent way, I kinda of liked it. Id rather people be stuck with the stereotypical knowledge of LV,Chanel and Gucci. I dont want people to find out about the awesomeness that is Alexander McQueen, Prabal Gurung, Alberta Ferrereti, Diane von Fustenberg and etc. However, sometimes things like this makes for a frustrating fashion display among Malaysians. we are stuck with neutrals when we do not have Fall as part of our climate. Yours truly have also become a victim of monochromatic wardrobe choices. As i grew tired of the choices of outfit in Malaysia, it is time for me to introduce to your certain styles that will soon, or perhaps much, much later make an impact in our fashion styles.
1) Abstract patterns
We are inundated with sights of people in the streets of malaysia with whites, blacks, and any monochromatic color imaginable. not to mention the usual floral patterns that you can obviously tell was mass-manufactured in one factory. and yes, guilty as charged i have the exact same floral pattern too. sigh. unfortunately finding fabric of a certain pattern may cost more, so you can only find them in expensive fashion houses. sigh.

the only hope of finding clothes of such pattern is at vintage stores and bundles. they are a steal at RM 5 above. Who says clothes for the 80s/90s are a joke, well, just make sure that you dont mix all clothes from an era in one getup.
2) Contrasting Colors
Thanks to Gucci, they have introduced the idea of mixing bright colors altogether. havent u heard? Excess is the method to impress. :)

then again wouldnt it be such a challenge to find these vivid colors for a fraction of the price offered at fashion stores.
3) Nudes
Despite the color craze, im slowly picking up hints of nudes as a major trend. Like the other day, I saw this AMAZING nude pumps at Forever 21 which unfortunately i didnt purchase. I udnerstand fashion is pain, but fashion should not also cause me Osteoporosis or arthiritis.

anything nudes is sexy. it somehow demonstrates the understated elegance that it carries with you. no embellishments, details, nothing. very sexy if not provocative.
